The prominent gas and convenient store business put in its controversial application to build a major 24-pump station near a small neighborhood off U.S. 41 and Davis Boulevard. A gas-station chain is fighting again to build a 16-pump site with a 24-hour convenience store just east of the U.S. 41 and Davis Boulevard intersection.

RaceTrac, which has been expanding into Collier and Lee counties over the past two years, has once again asked Collier County commissioners to waive a rule that prohibits gas stations from opening within 500 feet of one another. Neighbors rallied to fight the proposal in 2014, and, facing stiff opposition, RaceTrac withdrew its petition before commissioners could vote.
