NAPLES, Fla. – The proposed waterfront Hyatt House Naples resort hotel moved another step closer to fruition Wednesday, when City Council granted conditional approval for a parking analysis and garage and allowed the hotel to be seven feet higher than city code allows.

The 6-1 vote, with Councilwoman Teresa Heitmann opposing, approved plans for the 16,317-square-foot, three-story luxury hotel at 1345-1355 Fifth Ave. S., near the intersection of River Point Drive and the bridge over the Gordon River. Heitmann wanted reassurances about parking and cited concerns it would be in the flight path of planes departing and arriving at Naples Municipal Airport.

The 189-room hotel, approved by the Planning Advisory Board, Naples Airport Authority and Design Review Board, still must receive final design approval before building permits are granted. It also must receive state Department of Environmental Protection approval, but architect Matt Kragh has said that’s expected because plans ensure the river’s water quality would be improved.
